Club Joventut Badalona Pavilion
The boxing competitions for the Barcelona ’92 Olympic Games were done in a subsite, in Badalona, for that purpose were used the facilities of the Club Joventut Badalona Pavilion.
These facilities were already fully equipped at the time of the Games organization. Because of that it received a minimum investment dedicated only to adapt the court for the boxing ring.
Badalona was chosen as Olympic subsite for its great tradition in basketball. It is a city of Iberian origin and maintains many Roman remains. Throughout its history, Badalona grew from the inland towards the shore and in the twentieth century underwent a great industrial progress. It is situated 3 km from Barcelona, within the metropolitan area, and hosted the boxing and basketball competitions during the Olympic Games at the Palau d’Esports de Badalona and the Pavelló Club Joventut Badalona.
Sports Tradition
Badalona has a great sporting tradition and is one of the cradles, statewide, of basketball. His team, the Club Joventut Badalona, founded in 1930, has won several major titles throughout their history.
Press accommodation
On the occasion of the Barcelona ’92 Games, in Badalona was also built a press residence, the Villa of Montigalà, which hosted about 5,000 of the 11,000 journalists who came for the occasion. It is a garden city of 1000 homes and 100 acres of parkland near the Palau d’Esports. After the Games was sold to private buyers.
