The Barcelona’92 Olympic table tennis competition was held at the Poliesportiu Estació del Nord (Estació del Nord Sports Centre), which was built as part of the works to wholly remodel the former railway station (now a bus station). The works were fully funded and managed by the Organising Committee for the Barcelona’92 Olympic Games (COOB’92). The interior restructuring works on the old building (1861) were carried out in line with the project designed by the architect Enric Tous, and the sports pavilion was designed by the company Taber Enginyers S.A.

Due to the nature of the Olympic table tennis competition, where several games are played simultaneously, a variable stand system and extra seats were used to accommodate up to 5,500 spectators for the final. The sports centre is owned by the municipality and managed by the Union of Catalan Sports Federations. It is a multi-purpose sports centre and the services it offers have been expanded since the Barcelona’92 Olympic Games to include a heated swimming pool, spa services and even a beach volleyball court.
