Alongside television broadcast rights, sponsorship was one of the main sources of income for the XXVth Olympiad. At the Barcelona’’92 Olympic Games, sponsorship was divided into four categories: joint partners, official sponsors, official suppliers and suppliers of official sports material.

Joint partners were large companies —with a local presence— that provided the organisation with vital services. In this respect, a group of nine joint partners was chosen: five large companies that provided support for telecommunications and supplied computing and audiovisual equipment; an official bank that centralised all transactions; an insurance company, a vehicle manufacturer that provided support for mobility needs; and a department store that provided the remaining services.
